What is MagicJack?
MagicJack is a device that connects to your computer and gives phone service through the internet, for about $20 a year and $45 +/- for the product and the first year up front, using Voice Over Internet Protocol.
Some of the facts
- It is simple, you sign up, you are asked to upgrade with some wonderful things which negate your 30 day guarantee.
- In the TOS you agree that everything in your computer is fair game for them to know about, all web sites, email, and numbers called are their info. Remember the TOS is subject to change so parts of this may no longer apply. The concept will be the same, you are getting a bad and intrusive product.
- You agree to have all of your information resold to third parties.
- There is no Un install for this program. Even if you stop using it, it gathers your information. See http://uninstallmagicjack.com/?p=5
- You are put under high pressure to sign up and pay for 5 years.
- There is no published phone number, email address, or mailing address.
- All customer support is done via type in the box chat.
- There is no written warranty on the box. It breaks, you buy another to maintain your service.
- Computer must be left on to make or receive calls.
- Pop up window comes to front of screen anytime there is a call in or out call.
- MagicJack Spyware slows down your computer even when you are not using MagicJack
- Advertising is in the pop up box.
These people are getting a sweet deal. First they charge you for the device and service. Then they sell advertising space. As a final blow they collect data to share with third parties. Care to bet that they SELL that info? MagicJack wins all the way around

Happy Customers
We have to give them their due respects, there are happy customers. One noted that if you create a user-name and install the MagicJack in that directory then switch to your normal user-name, it will operate and you will not get the pop-up advertisements.

The Complaints
There are hundreds and hundreds of complaints of poor to non-existent customer service, poor sound quality, all seeming worse after the 30 days warranty expires. Since it's after the warranty period then no refund!

The Problem
As mentioned above. The primary concern is the missing uninstall. Once installed, this device will be calling home with information that you have agreed to have released to third parties, whether or not you are actually using it.

The Current Solution
At the moment it is a tedious solution at best. You will have to manually remove it from your computer. For directions you can have a look at these pages.

The Ultimate solution
As a proud member of the AutoIt community I am pleased to report that we are currently working on an uninstaller called MagicJack Attack which hopefully will eradicate all versions of MagicJack from your computer. The beta version of the program is now available.
Click here to download the zip file now now. Just run the exe file included in the zip file.
WARNING: If you plug the USB dongle back into your system, the software will be re-installed.
