BSOD when opening a folder. |
Here's one to fix a problem that can cause Windows 95 and 98 to "blue screen" with a Fatal Exception Error message when you attempt to open a folder.
If a path to a file or folder contains an MS-DOS device name (i.e., PRN, NUL, CON, etc.), it is treated as invalid; however, where a path contains two or more MS-DOS device names, Windows does not treat it as invalid. Instead, it performs an illegal resource access operation, becomes unresponsive, and / or crashes. This error is usually encountered if you try to access a URL in a malicious e-mail or Web page since folders and filenames cannot be created with reserved MS-DOS device names.
The problem can be fixed with downloads of Ifsmgr.vxd for Windows 95 and Windows 98.

Download and run the appropriate file.
