Internet Explorer7 ToolsNow also available in a Lite version for a smaller download. The Lite version does not contain the uninstall repair tool. Read on This is a very simple tool to use and will not require a brain surgeon to figure it out. Well the days of the simple concept of unzipping the file and then using it are behind us now. With all of the files that had to be added for the new uninstall repair section I have now been forced to write an installer for IE7 Tools (except for the Lite version). I could have packed them into the executable and then extracted them as required but the degradation in performance would have been horrendous. Sorry about that folks but such are the ways of computing. Just download the file, open it and run the setup.exe file that is inside. Still pretty simple. If you want a smaller download then get the Lite version. Just open the file and extract the file to wherever you want to keep it then create a shortcut. I recommend that the shortcut be on the Quick Launch bar so it's always handy but that choice is yours. The first time you run the program the help file will be installed in the same folder as the main executable. There are two groups on the GUI (more may be added soon). The group on the left side allows you to spoof the version of Internet Explorer for those sites that do not yet work with IE7 Beta by changing the User Agent String in the registry. If you can not get into a site (notoriously financial and brokerage institutions) then open the app and select Version 6 then click on the "Set Version" button. Although I have not tried it I suspect that this will work on the fly. If not then you will have to close and reopen Internet Explorer. Click here to view or hide the Screenshot
The group on the right just resets the default values for Tabs and Phishing filters. Select the appropriate checkboxes and click on the "Restore Defaults" button. This part is really still under development. the intent is to stop the Google toolbar from interfering with Tabs in the Beta version of IE. At this point I don't have the default registry values for the various versions of the Google bars so I can not reset those to default. If you happen to have the registry values then please so that I can finish that section. One more note. The ClearType option now sets ClearType On / Off for both Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. If you use Windows (Internet Options, Advanced tab) to set ClearType it will only set Internet Explorer. The Menu Bar at the top currently has little to offer but here it is
If you have any suggestions for this app you can use this link to so that I can attempt to put them in a future release. And one final note, no Vancouver Island Marmots were injured during the development of this application. They just had to work a bit harder. Visitors to this page since April 05, 2006 |
